So i’ve been slaving away (after the holidays and what-not) on a new batch of tattoo machines…
I’m calling this one Barnacle Bill….
UPDATED!! -with new photos of Bill…..
I’ve finished the last two…..
This one matches the big spider, and the last one I made into a jewelry box.
Second Kiss is a piece that was partially a reaction to some of the feedback I received for First Kiss.
Its also your typical love story: boy meets shark….
(this is an update of the little spiders post)
I think I’m gonna name these smaller spiders after the real Latrodectus Mactans models that I used for the original. Therefore, this one shall be called Edna.
Welding on some legs…..
Finished One!!!
-for the first one, I’m just going with a simple black patina, and I polished and masked the little hourglass on her tummy.
More photos below the fold…..
Finally got ‘em in metal!! (update of the little spiders post)
Still got a long way to go, but…..
-Check out them buns -SHINY!!!
First Kiss was one of my earliest large-scale bronzes.
It is based on a story I heard a few years ago…
It’s not really about spiders, at all…
but the imagery of a seven-foot-long metal black widow often overpowers the real intent….
Charade Rest is a piece that I started a long time ago…
I was working on it before 9/11, and after that happened, I put it on hold for a while.
as time went on, however….
God’s children is a two-part piece I finished in mid 2008.
Despite its simplicity, or perhaps because of it, I think that ideologically, it is my strongest piece to date.
A few in progress images on the little guys…..
This is an update of the new spiders post…
the live one and the dead one
earth.air.fire.water is a four part photographic series that juxtaposes archaic western mythology with a modern antiseptic presentation. The four elements are isolated, and presented in idealized Zen Enso circles, bolted into brushed stainless steel laser-cut frames, backlit with dual fluorescent bulbs.
This project is intended as a monument to the very ancient idea that all things are constructed of the same fundamental elements.
So it seems to me, that everyone’s favorite piece of mine is the spider. Unfortunately, it is huge, and somewhat expensive. In an effort to bring the joy of useless metal spider ownership to more of my fellow humans, I’ve started working on smaller versions…….
