Charade Rest

U.S. soldiers have for years chanted “This is my rifle, This is my gun- This is for fighting, This is for fun”, alternating between their rifles and their genitals. Modern military organizations have always tried to blur the lines between sexuality, domination, and violence. As many of these organizations become more gender neutral, these politics find themselves increasingly under moral scrutiny. The piece is intended to lay the concept out as ham-fistedly as I can imagine: As with most of my work: Read it as you will. I am constantly amazed at how people from the extreme ends of many different spectra perceive different messages from the piece. Somewhere in every culture, sex and violence collide. Personal identities crash headlong into hierarchies, homogenization, and dominance issues. We are all eventually playing the same game, participating in the same charade.
