Second Nature

My new body of work, Second Nature, uses elements and fragments of our natural environment to create sculptural elements that also have functionality. In bringing leaves and twigs into the cast bronze process, I use the structural properties of bronze to make fragile and diaphanous forms more permanent. I use natural and traditional patina processes to attempt to replicate the natural fall palette of the western U.S. As I continue to explore the structural and design possibilities of re-creating natural forms in cast bronze, I hope to evoke a sense of respect and reverence for our natural environment, and help to bring some of the tranquility and restfulness of nature to our everyday lives.
